The Class of 75 Reunion

1975-2025 The Golden One

Jerry Thompson

Good to hear everyone’s stories and hard to believe 50 years has passed.

For myself, I retired two years ago, after 40 years in general practice (and a few years in general medicine before that). It’s been an enjoyable and fulfilling career.

Medicine still fascinates me and I’ve been fortunate to have been able to explore many aspects of medicine. In the early days I got into hypnosis and NLP which I really enjoyed. I’ve practiced ecological (nutritional and environmental) medicine throughout most of career which has worked well with general practice.

My particular interest has been people who get better against the odds and I eventually wrote a book about this.

Although I’m not practicing now, medicine has not quite departed from my life. I’m involved with the training program at BSEM (British Society of Ecological medicine), do their newsletter and still keep my website active.

I’ve been married since 1980, have two sons and one grandson.

I thought I would miss general practice on retiring but I’ve not missed it at all. Fortunately, I’m in good health and life is full, visiting family, bird-watching and wildlife photography and more.

I think we were the lucky (dare I say golden) generation in so many ways and despite thoroughly enjoying my career I wouldn’t like to be starting medicine again in today’s climate.

Wishing you all good luck, good health and a great retirement.
