I joined the Army during the Med School years to help pay for accommodation (Benwell!) and wedding…. lasted 52 years with lovely Ynez so far! Started general practice training in Germany but switched to Ophthalmology with happy times in Germany, Israel and Hong Kong. Left a rapidly shrinking RAMC for a job in Middlesbrough and moved to our present home in Great Ayton.
Retired earlyish in 2010 after 20 years of NHS seemed enough. Bought a small yacht (Frances 26) and a campervan. Explored coast up to Kirkwall, Orkney and loved it but the van lasted longer as French countryside holidays won us both over quite easily. We have 4 adult children, all now with their own little and not so little ones, all now in England (visiting Australia now seems so so far….!).
I enjoy a weekly cycle and coffee trip out with village friends and Ynie and I both enjoy a sometimes hilarious but still competitive level of badminton with fellow Aytonians.
