Oh what a night…
It all began in the lovely Garden Room at the Biscuit Factory …

… with a drinks reception. Name badges helped us to recognise old friends and it didn’t take long for everyone to start talking! Photos and a slideshow from past decades helped jog our memories before the main event.

The garden room was amazing and what a time we had.

… but also what a day
In the morning some of us enjoyed a tour of the University campus, much changed since our day. We had a look at the outside of our Medical School, which is now part of the Education Department. Apparently the tiling in the old anatomy room is still there, although not the smell!! We also revisited the Kings Hall and saw the statue of Martin Luther King which stands outside the new entrance to the Armstrong Building. (Thanks to Newcastle University Alumni Reunions and our guides Ali and Mia).

In the afternoon many of us joined Prof Paul Paes (Head of School) and his team for a fantastic tour of the new Medical School. After an overview of their current work (up to 400 students per year and very close links with the medical school in Kuala Lumpur), we got to see a wonderful exhibition of the olden days (including Alistair Brewis’ painting of our Medical School); the amazing new lecture theatre (not for the vertiginous) and the anatomy department (they have several dissection specimens on the go at once and the students have 15 minutes with each one). Special thanks to Prof Paes, Pam White, Isobel Duckling and Shaun Hughes for an amazing afternoon.

The rogues gallery
Have you spotted yourself yet. If not – try looking in rogues gallery.
Hopefully there is at least one photo in the gallery of every graduate who attended. If not please accept our apologies and hopefully some one out there will have more photos and send them in!!
