I ended up as an Ophthalmologist in Birmingham specialising in Vitreo-retinal Surgery. I enjoyed work very much but have had absolutely no difficulty settling into retirement. We spend about a third of our time at our cottage near Embleton on the NE coast and still see a lot of old Med School chums when we are there. I continue to play golf badly at Bamburgh and Edgbaston. We have 2 sons who are now themselves middle-aged (!) and 3 grandchildren. One is just taking her GCSEs and it’s our golden wedding later this year. How did all that happen when we still feel young ourselves?
